What Are Website Trends in 2022?
Websites are a design space.
Like all things visual - cars, kitchens, fashion, art, hairstyles, typography, architecture...
...Trends Come and Go
Let's take a tour through Amazon's website history:
NOTABLE ADJUSTMENTS, FROM THEN TO NOW:
LESS TEXT, MORE VISUAL
Website Design Trends are continually moving to more visual. BIG visuals. BOLD visuals. This is apparent as you scroll through the history of Amazon dot com.
MAIN TEXT POPS MORE
Earlier in their website iterations, text (copy) was in their brand colors with Orange being a highlight for Headings. Eventually, they switched to more screen-friendly darker, bolder heading text (easy scan).
BIGGER, EVERYTHING
Imagery, Text Size, Buttons, Promos for scannability and obvious navigation.
UPDATES INCREASINGLY MORE FREQUENT
Obviously Amazon will be updating constantly but you can really see the trend, in the below graph. As time moves closer to today there is an acceleration of update frequency.
Digital Trends MOVE FAST and CHANGE OFTEN
Your clients and customers expect you to keep up!
Ensuring your website is keeping up with the trends communicates relevance and trustworthiness. If that is valuable to your company you will want to design tweak your site, annually, and do a major overhaul or new build when warranted.
Modern digital stylings are affected by popular new apps, trend-setting brands, and technology updates.
Like with hairstyles, clothing, and your kitchen remodel - if you go SUPER TREND OF THE MOMENT, your website will be badass for a bit but date itself more quickly.
For design-relevance longevity, best practice for your web design is to go for classic styling with modern touches
Groovy! Radical! Boss! Phat! Sick! Sweet! On Fleek! Dope! Gucci!
(see what we did there...)
